Drop-off event for household hazardous waste

If you have plenty to get rid of after your spring cleaning, there is another Hazardous Waste Day this weekend.

Residents can properly dispose of a number of different household items at Clean Harbors including batteries, pesticides, pool chemicals, cleaning solutions, propane cylinders, and paints.

You cannot dispose of PCBs, commercial, industrial and radioactive wastes, electronics, and explosives including flares and ammunition.

"The events give Lambton County residents an opportunity to properly dispose of potentially dangerous waste from their homes and protect our environment at the same time," said the County of Lambton website. "If hazardous products are thrown in with the regular garbage, it can injure sanitation workers and cause long-term environmental problems."

Saturday’s free event at the Telfer Road facility runs from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Residents are reminded to have items clearly labelled.

Four other hazardous waste days will be held this year in May, June, September, and October.

Three mobile events are also planned in June and October at Lambton College, and the County Public Works Depot in Petrolia and Forest.

Further details about dates and accepted items can be found on the County of Lambton's website.
