Petrolia, unionized workers reach new contract

The Town of Petrolia has ratified a new agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 2393.

The agreement is for four years and involves nine full-time staff and between seven and sixteen part-time staff and students.

They include Petrolia's Public Works department, parks, and arena staff.

In an email, the town said the negotiations concluded after seven meetings, and both parties are pleased with the outcome.

The agreement, also ratified by CUPE, runs from January 2026 to December 2029.

Deputy Mayor Joel Field said some minor housekeeping changes are included in the agreement and include a total 12.45 per cent wage increase over four years.

"Council is pleased that our CUPE employees have worked with our management team to develop this new agreement and would like to extend appreciation to the staff for their outstanding work to contribute to the success of Petrolia," said Field. "We look forward to continuing these positive working relationships."
