Lambton OPP seek suspects after telecommunication wire stolen in St. Clair Township

Lambton OPP are asking for help to identify those responsible for the theft of telecommunication wire in St. Clair Township.

Officers were called to an area on Highway 40 on May 6, where three utility boxes had been damaged and telecommunication wires had been cut and stolen.

In a news release issued about the crime on May 14, OPP said the investigation is continuing.

"Theft and damage to telecommunication infrastructure are not simply property crimes," it read. "They can create serious public safety risks. These networks support essential services such as 911, emergency response, medical alert systems, internet access and telephone connectivity. When communication lines are disrupted or compromised residents and emergency responders may face delays in communications."

Lambton OPP are seeking the public's assistance in identifying the suspects.

Officers are also urging the public to report any suspicious activity near telecom infrastructure to help protect the services.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lambton OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
