The annual Firefighter Field Days event kicks off on Friday, June 12, in Corunna.
The two-day event will include a parade, live music, and activities.
"On Friday, we will be having live entertainment at the fire hall. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. Live entertainment starts about 8:30 p.m., featuring Hayden Mellon and a special guest," said Committee Co-Chair Brian McNair. "Saturday, we have a parade starting at 11 a.m. down Lyndoch Street and back to the fire hall, which will include fire apparatuses from St. Clair Township, neighbouring communities, as well as industry, and a few historical apparatus pieces will be attending as well."
The parade will be followed by a car show that goes until 2 p.m., a BBQ, and other activities such as a live fire demonstration.
Admission during the daytime events is free. To see the musicians in the evening, there is a $10 cover.
McNair said proceeds will go to the volunteer fire association to put back into the community, sponsoring youth and adult sports teams, the Legion, and Operation Christmas Tree.
"We do keep a fund aside for families that suffer tragedy, either in house fires or critical accidents," he said.
McNair said the event typically sees a large turnout.
"We see a big crowd during the family event during the day, usually between 200 to 300 families. There will be a barbecue for the families to attend as well," McNair said. "At nighttime, we can see between 500 to 900 people, depending on the weather. It looks like it's going to be a hot, sunny weekend. So, we hope for everybody to come out."
Two Water Brewing Co. will be serving up some burgers and hot dogs for those looking for a bite.
"We have dubbed it the unofficial kickoff this summer in Corunna. It's been an annual event that's been around since 1978. There was a little bit of downtime during COVID; however, it's been a tradition here, so it brings out generations of families," he said. "It's important to keep this going because it's tradition, and it's what we expect here in our small town of Corunna, and we're just one big family here."
Hill Street will be closed to traffic between Murray Street and Bentinck Street on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. to accommodate the daytime events.
Saturday night will be filled with more live music, with Noah Leonard taking the stage at 7:30 p.m. and the Booze Hounds following right after at 9 p.m.
