Chamber CEO running for mayor

It appears Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce CEO Carrie McEachran has had a change of heart and is now running for mayor in the City of Sarnia.

Back in April, McEachran said she had no intention of getting involved in politics during an episode of Sarnia Lambton Beyond the Headlines (at the 8:33 mark).

However, McEachran officially filed her nomination papers on Monday, June 15.

"I am honoured by the support and encouragement I have received from so many people throughout our community," said McEachran in a statement. "Today marks the beginning of an important conversation about Sarnia's future, and I look forward to speaking with residents across the city in the months ahead."

In addition to her duties at the chamber, McEachran was appointed to the Sarnia Police Service Board in April.

Business owner Scott Molson and councillors Bill Dennis and Chrissy McRoberts are also running for mayor.

Meanwhile, the Sarnia Lambton Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has approved a leave of absence for McEachran while she campaigns.

Board Vice Chair Steve Crozier will serve as interim CEO.
