Lambton County library hosting book reading challenge kickoff party

Lambton County Library's annual Summer Reading Challenge will launch on Saturday, June 20, with a free kickoff party in Victoria Park in Petrolia from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The annual reading challenge is a way to encourage all ages to read throughout the summer months and to participate in free activities and events offered by the library.

This year's theme, "Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead," celebrates science, technology, engineering, art, and math with themed activities and programs.

“We’re encouraging every member of the family to sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge so that together or independently, you can read books, complete activities, and earn badges for a chance to win great prizes,” said Public Services Coordinator, Youth Programs & Outreach Vanitia Campbell in a news release. “Not only does the challenge offer free fun activities, but it also helps youth build and retain academic skills outside the classroom.”

The summer reading challenge is free to join and runs from June 20 to August 14. Participants can register at their local Lambton County Library or through Beanstack.

Chances to win prizes, and kids and teens are able to earn French and English books for their personal collections.
