Input is being sought for a new community mural in Mitton Village that will explore birth and parenting experiences.
The project, which received initial funding through Lambton County's Creative County Grant, is being coordinated by doula Javi Aviles-Saez, in partnership with the nuSarnia Foundation, and will be located on the exterior wall of Radiant Community Centre at 109 Mitton Street South.
Three community engagement sessions are planned this Sunday, June 28, and two are planned on Saturday, August 1.
The project aims to celebrate the often-unseen experiences of pregnancy, birth, caregiving, and community support that shape family life in Sarnia-Lambton.
"If you participate in raising a child, you’re invited, whatever that experience has looked like for you," says Aviles-Saez.
Free childcare on-site and transit tickets will be available to participants who require them. "We want to reduce barriers to attendance. If childcare or transportation support would make it easier for you to participate, you can request it through the interest form," Aviles-Saez said.
Each session is two hours and capped at approximately seven to ten families.
Pre-registration is requested online.
Local artist Lauren Davidson has been selected to paint the mural, which is expected to be completed later this year.
