The Corunna Legion's Catch the Ace must go tonight.
Due to its municipal licence, the Corunna Legion's Catch the Ace main prize must be won during the July 8 event, meaning someone will definitely walk home with nearly $30,000.
"Tonight's catch the ace, it's week six, and we are already at our max for payout for our current licence, so the ace must go tonight. The prize is estimated at $28,000, and it's going to be an exciting evening," said Vanessa Barnes, secretary and public relations officer for the Corunna Legion. "Tickets are $5, and we have a max of eight tickets per person."
Due to the must-go, names will be drawn until a guaranteed winner is selected.
To help make the event more fair, there is a cap on how many tickets one can buy. A maximum of eight tickets per person can be purchased and there are 4,820 available. The first ticket drawn wins 20 per cent of the evening's ticket sales.
"We have cash and debit/credit available for our ticket sales. We have six sellers in the hall, and then you can go in and then go over to the club side, where you can put your ballot in, and hopefully get your name called for a ticket tonight for the ace," said Barnes. "Last week, there were over 700 people that showed up, which has been amazing. Our first week, we had 420 people, so it's why our pot has grown so quickly over the last six weeks. So, I'm expecting at least 700 tonight."
Tickets are $5 and are on sale from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. The draw is at 8 p.m., and the 50/50 ticket sales run at the same time.
"There's karaoke this evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The bars are open on both sides of the Legion this evening, and there's also food available for sale. They have great games outside on our patio, and there's also lots of camaraderie happening within the Legion itself, lots of volunteers and people on site to answer any questions that people have, and just have a great evening."
You do not have to be present to win. The winner will be announced on the Corunna Legion's Facebook live.
