It could be the final time this current group of Sarnia council members meets in an official capacity.
The last official regular council meeting of this term was held on Monday, July 20, ahead of the upcoming municipal election on October 26.
However, if needed, a special council meeting can be called.
In the meantime, council adopted a bylaw to temporarily delegate limited powers and duties of council to Chief Administrative Officer Chris Carter between July 21 and November 14.
The next regular council meeting is scheduled for November 23, after a new council is sworn in.
Councillors Bill Dennis and Dave Boushy were not present during Monday's meeting.
In April, Boushy announced his intention to retire after this term.
Council congratulated Boushy on his over 50 years of public service, and Mayor Mike Bradley said a provincial recognition is anticipated.
As of July 20, five of the current council members have filed nomination papers.
Councillors Dennis and Chrissy McRoberts are running for mayor, alongside Carrie McEachran and Scott Molson.
Councillors George Vandenberg, Brian White, and Terry Burrell are seeking reelection.
The final day to file is on August 21 at 2 p.m.
