Sarnia and Point Edward have received first quarter gaming revenue payments from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).
The money is given to cities across the province that host casinos.
Sarnia has received $83,437 for hosting Gateway Casinos Sarnia for the period of April 1 to June 30.
Since the gaming site opened in May 1999, Sarnia has received $28,497,414.
Point Edward is getting $420,711 and has received $55,912,074 since the Starlight Casino opened in April 2000.
“Revenues from OLG’s Municipality Contribution Agreement allow Sarnia and Point Edward to invest in infrastructure and provide funding for critical community services,” said Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey in a news release. “Provincial revenues from Gateway Casinos Sarnia and Starlight Casino Point Edward will help improve the quality of life for families across Ontario.”
The OLG said the payments are based on a formula consistently applied across all gaming sites in Ontario using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site.
Since 1994, host communities have received more than $2.4 billion in non-tax gaming revenue.
