Six students from Great Lakes Secondary School (GLSS) have received the 2026 Anne McFadyen Scholarships.
McFadyen was the first woman to serve as President of the Lambton Law Association and later as a respected judge of the Ontario Court of Justice.
Established through the generosity of Anne’s husband, George, the Sarnia Community Foundation, and Great Lakes Secondary School, the scholarships recognize students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, and financial need.
“Each of these students has made a meaningful impact on our school community,” said GLSS Principal Nathan Jeffrey. “The Anne McFadyen Scholarships not only support their next steps, but also honour their dedication, character, and commitment to excellence. We are incredibly grateful for this partnership and the opportunities it creates for our graduates.”
The scholarships are valued at $15,000 each and support students as they pursue secondary education.
“These scholarships reflect the power of community partnerships and the belief that investing in young people creates lasting impact,” said Lambton Kent District School Board Superintendent of Education Ben Hazzard. “We are proud of these students and grateful for the generosity that makes opportunities like this possible.”
Recipients include Jayla Judson, who will be attending Wilfrid Laurier University for Health Sciences; Joel Derkzen, who is set to attend Western University for Mechanical Engineering; Jacob Mills, who will be attending University of Windsor for Honours Criminology; Kaelyn McArthur, who will attending Western University for Kinesiology; Olivia Courtney, who will be aAttending Redeemer University for Psychology; and Katie Brooks, who is going to Western University for Social Science.
