Four students awarded conservation scholarships

Four Lambton-Kent students are being recognized by the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) for their academic achievements and commitment to environmental stewardship.

Two of the scholarship recipients attended Northern Collegiate Institute and Vocational School in Sarnia, and two are from Chatham-Kent.

Eliana Severs from Northern and Tyson Lozon from Wallaceburg District Secondary School were awarded the 2026 A.W. Campbell Memorial Scholarship.

Both students will pursue engineering degrees.

The conservation authority said Severs plans to attend Queen's University with aspirations of developing innovative environmental solutions to infrastructure challenges.

Lozon will attend the University of Western Ontario in the fall.

"He hopes to address pressing environmental challenges through the development of sustainable technologies and environmentally responsible designs that will preserve ecosystems and promote responsible resource use," read a media release.

Meanwhile, Josie Van Dellen, a Wallaceburg resident who attended École secondaire catholique de Pain Court, was awarded the Tony Stranak Conservation Scholarship.

Van Dellen will pursue a degree in wildlife biology and conservation at the University of Guelph.

Lastly, the Mary Jo Arnold Conservation Scholarship was awarded to Areya Young of Sarnia.

Young will attend the University of Waterloo in the Climate and Environmental Change program.

"These students have demonstrated a remarkable commitment to both academic excellence and environmental stewardship," said SCRCA Chair Greg Grimes in a statement. "Their passion for protecting and enhancing the natural environment gives us confidence in the future of conservation. We are proud to support them as they take the next step in their educational journeys and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have on their communities and beyond."

In total, $3,000 was awarded to students this year.

The scholarships are made possible through trust funds established by the St. Clair Region Conservation Foundation and its donors.
