Multiple weather alerts, tornado warning issued for Sarnia-Lambton

Severe thunderstorms Wednesday evening knocked out power for hundreds of Bluewater Power customers.

The utility dealt with a handful of weather related outages in Point Edward and Sarnia, including fallen trees. All power was restored by 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

A severe thunderstorm watch issued just after 12 p.m. Wednesday was updated to a warning around 5:30 p.m., with a brief tornado warning following less than two hours later.

Environment Canada warned that the region could see wind gusts near 100 km/h, toonie sized hail, and heavy rainfall. More than 40 mm of rain could accumulate in some areas, the weather agency noted.

Residents were warned that power outages, infrastructure damage, and flash flooding were possible.

At 7:07 p.m., a tornado warning was issued, alongside a warning to take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
