A popular summertime tradition for families will return, but instead of being held at Canatara Park, Kids Funfest will take place at Centennial Park.
City of Sarnia Recreation Coordinator Rebecca Warren said they wanted to move the family-friendly event to a more central area and highlight the waterfront park.
"A lot of our signature events are located at Canatara Park, so we're just trying to use some of our other great parks that we have within the city," Warren said.
The event will be held on Saturday, August 15, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the open field and Suncor Agora Stage.
"We have performers on the stage throughout the entire event at the Suncor Agora," Warren said. "We have a juggling show, we have a children's music performer, a comedy magic show, and a circus performer as well."
A schedule of performances can be found on the city's website.
Activities will also include inflatables, face painting, skateboarding, touch-a-truck, and arts and crafts.
Warren said about 30 local vendors and organizations will be at the park as well.
"Different recreation groups, service clubs, social services, child care... all those sorts of things looking to promote the services they have," Warren said. "They provide an activity too for kids to participate in, and it's a great way for children and families to be aware of services, recreation opportunities, and whatnot available in the community in a fun and interactive way."
Typically about 2,000 people attend Kids Funfest.
As of 7 a.m., the Suncor Agora parking lot will be closed for the event to accommodate the touch-a-truck activity. Attendees are encouraged to park in other municipal lots on Front Street and Harbour Road or to utilize public transit.
