Watford's Centennial Park playground now open following delays

The wait is over for families in Watford.

After significant delays, the new playground at Centennial Park is finished and open to the public.

The Watford Park Playground Revitalization Project started on June 1, and was originally scheduled to take about two weeks to complete.

Warwick Township Parks and Recreation Manager Ryan Chamney said the delays in the project were outside the township's control.

"There were a number of challenges including weather and supply of a couple pieces of equipment that were crucial to the final design of the playground," Chamney said.

Despite the setbacks, Chamney noted that community response to the finished product has been positive.

"The new playground provides an accessible, inclusive structure that includes installation of an accessible rubber surfacing, multiple ground components, adjoining swing set with an accessible seat and connects with the existing splash pad and other park amenities," he said. "It's the first of its kind in Warwick Township and we're excited to see the community use it."

The playground revitalization project was part of a multi-year, phased Centennial Park Revitalization Plan, included in the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

The project was funded in part by a $125,000 federal accessibility grant, with the rest coming from township reserve funds.
