Free bike and road safety workshop at Canatara

Local kids are being invited to tune up their road safety skills before hitting the pavement this school year.

The workshop, in partnership with the Sarnia Police Service, is part of the First Five Kids Summer Workshop Series put on by the First Five Team at the West Lambton Community Health Centre.

"We know families are busy, and we know kids learn best when they engage and have fun. So we wanted to bring this educational opportunity directly into the community. That's why we partnered with the police," said First Five Program spokesperson Sarah Neve.

The event is to encourage kids to learn about road and bike safety before heading into the new school year. Kids will learn the rules of biking on roadways and how to wear helmets properly.

"Kids will have a chance to get to interact with a police officer and learn about road safety in a way that's engaging and age-appropriate. There will be a slideshow, and the children are welcome to bring their bikes. And there's an opportunity for them to ask questions and learn some practical things they can take with them with regards to bike and road safety," said Neve.

The event is aimed at young children, but the whole family is welcome.

"It's always fun to encourage families to come out, learn something new, and participate in this whole series for the summer. We actually have one more workshop coming up to wrap up the summer series. The last one will be on August 27th. It will be here at the West Lambton Community Health Center with the Sarnia Fire and Rescue.

The bike and road safety workshop begins at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 21 at the Log Cabin at Canatara Park. Registration is encouraged.

More details can be found on the Lambton Family Hub website.
