Community block party in Petrolia to support charitable organizations

Black Gold Brewery in Petrolia is looking to thank the community for its ongoing support while also raising awareness for local charities during its annual block party.

"This is the second annual End of Summer Bash for Black Gold Brewery," said Director of Operations Robyn Brocklehurst. "The concept behind it was, in the beginning, a big thank you to the community for their support for Black Gold Brewery over the past six years."

The block party is scheduled for Saturday, August 29, from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

There will be a kids' fun zone, food vendors, line dancing, and live music beginning at 7 p.m. with Luna Stereo.

Admission is free, but donations will be collected in support of The Community Refrigerator, a pantry located behind St. Paul’s United Church to support those facing food insecurity.

The event will also support the Petrolia & North Enniskillen Fire Department, Lambton County Developmental Services (LCDS), the Kiwanis Club of Petrolia and Area, and the Sarnia & District Humane Society.

Proceeds from the kids' fun zone (which will include games, snow cones and cotton candy) will support the fire department; a portion of proceeds from every beer sold will be donated to LCDS; a 50/50 raffle will support the Kiwanis Club; and the Sarnia & District Humane Society will be on site selling drinks and freezies.

The Caregivers of Petrolia Ferals will also have a booth set up, providing face painting and balloon animals. Donations will be accepted for local animal care.

Brocklehurst said the organizations are ones they've supported in the past.

"They're the ones that are close to our hearts," she said.

Fletcher Street from Petrolia Line to Robert Street will be closed to traffic to accommodate the event.

Free shuttle buses, sponsored by Platinum Properties, will be operating throughout Petrolia. Route details can be found on the brewery's Facebook page.
