Downtown Sarnia businesses targeted in AC wiring thefts

Sarnia police are investigating several reports of vandalism in the downtown core.

Police said wiring from commercial air conditioning units, between Davis Street and George Street, from Front Street to Vidal Street was stolen. Damage to the units is estimated at over $30,000.

Surveillance photos of a person of interest have been released.

Anyone with information about the incidents, or who may know the person in the photo is asked to contact the Sarnia Police Service at 519-344-8861.

Downtown area business are also being encouraged to review the area around their AC units and ensure it's well-lit and security cameras are in place and in working order.

"These small steps can act as a crime deterrent and also assist the police with their investigation should any damage occur," said SPS in a media release. "The Sarnia Police Service has officers uniquely trained in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED).
