With windows in and the building officially watertight, construction on Lambton College’s new student residence has shifted into high gear inside.
Tilbury Properties Corporation Partner Michael Kaye said it's been a very busy site this summer.
"Since topping off, we are now technically watertight," Kaye said. "All of the windows have been installed, the glass curtain walls both running up the side of the building from the second floor to the fifth floor on the front of the building, as well as the curtain walls on the main floor at the front and rear of the building have been installed and -- really exciting -- is seeing the facade starting to be installed."
The interior is just as busy, with trade teams taking over the indoor space.
"There are multiple teams working on the inside of the building and that pace is going to pick up with mechanical, electrical, drywall installations," he said.
Kaye said everything has been moving smoothly so far.
"Knock on wood, yes," he said. "We've been very happy with how the project has been progressing. We continue to be on time and planning to have students living in that building as of next fall 2027."
Construction students at the post-secondary campus visited the building site in the spring, and Kaye is looking forward to welcoming them back this fall.
"We will happily take any of the college's students through and if any professors do reach out we're taking them through the building," he said. "I was just on site and it sounds like the contractor actually hired one of the college's students to join the team. So, that was exciting to see and hear."
