Childcan PJ Walk returns to Bright's Grove this weekend.
Community members will show their support for children battling cancer during the annual Childcan Pyjama Walk in Bright's Grove on Sunday, September 20.
Childcan, a charitable organization supporting families in western Ontario, said it's holding several "pyjamaganza" events to raise funds and awareness of childhood cancer.
"Too many kids, affected by a cancer diagnosis, rarely get out of their jammies. We will be walking in solidarity with them to show them that they are not alone," said Childcan in a media release.
The Pyjama Walk first came to Sarnia-Lambton last year.
Participants will gather at Mike Weir Park on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for the walk, either 2.5 kilometres or five km.
During the opening ceremonies, a local family will share their story.
According to Childcan's website, this year's goal is to raise $5,000 locally, but the overall goal is to raise $100,000.
Other walks will be held in London, LaSalle, Owen Sound, Mitchell, and Sault Ste. Marie.
Funds raised will support local families who are coping with their child’s cancer diagnosis as well as paediatric cancer research. Since 1974, the Childcan has helped families cover the costs of hospital transportation, parking passes, and bill payments.
September is also recognized as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
