Annual 'Jordan’s Run the Runway' returns to Sarnia's Chris Hadfield Airport

A unique charity event is hitting the runway at Sarnia's Chris Hadfield Airport this week.

Jordan’s Run the Runway, presented by Siskinds LLP, is a one-of-a-kind five kilometre run, walk, roll, and pole that raises funds to send kids to YMCA camps.

"It's our third annual Run the Runway. It's a 5K run, walk, roll, or pole. Meaning, you can show up, and you can just walk it. You can push the little ones in the stroller. You can use the Nordic poles that you see folks doing these days to help you get through. And it's just a fun little get-together," said YMCA General Manager Paul Skuza.

The event honours the life and legacy of Jordan Strickland, who had a passion for YMCA Camp Queen Elizabeth (CQE) and believed sending kids to camp provided life-changing experiences.

"Jordan Strickland was just a former camper at the YMCA and Camp Queen Elizabeth up on Georgian Bay, and was gone too young. So his family started this race," said Skuza. "At the Y, we're trying to do more for the community, make sure that folks don't get turned away for financial barriers, and so the proceeds from this run go back to helping families sign up for swim lessons and memberships and get a subsidized rate."

Sarnia-Lambton's Run the Runway will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, October 2, rain or shine.

The event is open to everyone, and those who can't make it are encouraged to participate virtually.

Registration details can be found on the YMCA's website.
