A large addition at Bright's Grove Community Library gave September building stats a big boost.
Sarnia City Hall issued a total of 39 permits last month, with a total dollar value of over $10.7 million.
Almost half of that was a $5.35 million permit for work at the library at 2618 Hamilton Road.
The site was closed over the summer to allow for the work to begin, which includes accessibility upgrades, a private meeting space and a larger collection.
The monthly statistics also include a $220,000 permits for renovations at Lakeside Childcare on Telfer Road.
Year-over-year construction activity is slightly ahead of last year with a total of 346 permits issued so far in 2026, compared to 319 during the same time frame last year. However, the year to date total is sitting at $70.3 million, down from over $76 million last year.
There were four permits issued for single-family dwellings in September, bringing the year-to-date total for new homes to 30.
