Mobile HHW events scheduled for October

Two mobile Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection events, held in partnership between the County of Lambton and Clean Harbors Canada Inc., are scheduled to take place this week.

The first event will be held in Petrolia on Thursday, October 15, at the County Public Works Depot, located at 310 Centre St.

The last mobile HHW event of 2026 will be held on Saturday, October 17, at the County Public Works Depot, at 6958 Townsend Line in Lambton Shores.

Both mobile drop-off events are scheduled to take place from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"Corrosive, toxic, reactive and flammable materials will be collected at the mobile depot," said Public Works Manager Matt Deline in a media release. "These items should never be placed in a regular landfill because they have the potential to injure sanitation workers and the potential to damage our environment."

Residents can dispose of items such as batteries, cleaning fluids, pesticides, paints, BBQ starter, propane cylinders, and pharmaceuticals free of charge. Lithium batteries should be kept separate from all other battery types when dropping items off.

Unacceptable items include explosives (such as fireworks, flares, and ammunition), electronics, or asbestos.

Residents dropping off items are asked to place them in disposable cardboard boxes, bags or containers if possible. On-site staff will unload the waste and the packages will not be returned.

The final HHW collection event of the year will be held at Clean Harbors Canada on Telfer Road in St. Clair Township on Saturday, October 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A full list of items that can be dropped off can be found on the county's website.

Meanwhile, the Village of Point Edward is hosting an e-waste collection drive for its residents on October 26.

Point Edward residents can drop off old electronics (such as computers, printers, cellphones, and cables) at 210 Monk St. between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Residents are asked to erase any personal data from the devices before recycling them.
