It may be 'a graveyard smash' as ghouls and goblins do The Monster Dash in Point Edward.
A fundraising walk/run will be held on Wednesday, October 28, in support of The Centre.
"The Centre provides free services to our community to those who have experienced gender-based violence or sexual harm," said Community Engagement Coordinator Hollie Millholland. "Some of our services include a 24-hour crisis line, free individual counselling, as well as group supports. We also offer human trafficking and exploitation services as well as community education, accompaniment; we also have a male ally coalition."
The spooky five kilometre or 10K race will start at 6 p.m., underneath the Blue Water Bridge.
"All experience levels are welcome; you can run, walk, or jog," Millholland said. "Costumes are encouraged, and treats will be provided."
Pre-registration is not required, participants can drop in with a donation.
The race route will go along the waterfront, past the yacht club to Canatara Park, down Christina Street to Michigan Avenue, and back under the bridge.
The Monster Dash was organized in collaboration with Still Standing Run Club.
"We wanted to partner with Still Standing because we believe movement is definitely important in helping with your mental health, and that is one of their goals over there is to come together, to run together, and heal together," Millholland said.
Still Standing Run Club formed in mid-July by Vincent Zuniga.
"I started it to bring a community together," Zuniga told Sarnia News Today. "It's a way for people to connect with other athletes and get kilometres in."
The club currently has about 10 to 15 regular participants.
Zuniga said he wanted to collaborate with The Centre after organizing a successful donation run with Brightside Sarnia.
"That's why I connected with The Centre, because I know they have a huge impact in Sarnia, they're doing beautiful work in there. I really wanted to bring my running club to that and get more people involved," Zuniga said.
The Still Standing Run Club meets every Wednesday under the bridge and is open to all ages and levels.
