Former Chatham man sentenced for 1997 sexual assaults in Southwestern Ontario

A man accused of sexually assaulting three teens and one young woman in Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton in 1997 has been sentenced to 13 years in jail.

Jason Davidson, 53, formerly of Chatham, has 11.5 years left to serve after the usual 1.5 days of credit given for time already served.

He pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the four women between March and August of 1997 in Chatham court two weeks ago.

He was arrested in Campbell River, British Columbia, on October 26, 2025, on 15 charges of kidnapping, forcible confinement, uttering threats, sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault causing bodily harm, sexual assault with a weapon, and theft.

All of the women were sexually assaulted in similar manners. They were offered rides, asked to have sex for money and refused, and taken to remote spots where they were violently sexually assaulted, including being pulled out of a car by their hair, being threatened with death and harm if they didn't comply with his demands, and being punched.

Davidson was charged after a DNA hit, a genealogy match, and his car matching the description of the suspected car.

Justice Shannon Pollock told the court that the impact of the offences on the victims cannot be overstated and their trauma was a factor in her sentencing.

"The consequences for them have been devastating. As a human being, as a woman, my heart breaks for these four victims for the pain, the fear, and trauma they've had to endure, not just on the night of their attacks, but for the decades since," said Pollock.

Davidson must also provide a DNA sample, will be added to the National Sex Offender Registry for life, is banned for 10 years from attending public parks and swimming areas where persons under the age of 16 are or could be present, as well as banned from daycares, schools, playgrounds, and community centres during that period.

He's also prohibited from having a position of authority or trust towards persons under the age of 16 for 10 years and will be prohibited from possessing weapons.
