Rocca Signs With NBL's River Lions

Sarnia's Joe Rocca has signed a professional contract to play for the Niagara River Lions of the National Basketball League of Canada.

Coming off a national championship with Carleton University, the 25-year-old guard will get his first taste of pro basketball with Niagara.

Rocca played four years at McMaster University before joining the Ravens. He sat the entire 2015-2016 season in order to be eligible for the 2016-2017 campaign.

The move paid off for Rocca, who shot 45% from three point range to help lead Carleton to their seventh straight National Championship.Niagara River Lions logo

He averaged 12.3 points and 4.6 rebounds during in his five seasons in the OUA.

Rocca's younger brother Mike is a member of the University of Windsor men's basketball team.

The River Lions are 10-23 on the season, last place in the five team Central Division.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
