Fazio released by Red Wings

Former Sting goaltender Justin Fazio has been released by the Detroit Red Wings.

The Sarnia-native was signed to an amateur tryout with the team in April.

Fazio, 20, spent more than four seasons with the Sting. He's now too old to return to the OHL.

He plans to play at Queen's University this season if he doesn't sign a pro contract.

Fazio was one of four players that were released by the Red Wings on Sunday. The club sent six other players back to their respective major junior teams.

Detroit currently has 61 players on their training camp roster.
