Legionnaires fall 4-3 to Chatham

The Sarnia Legionnaires (2-1-0-0) lost their first game of the season on Thursday night, a 4-3 defeat at the hands of the Chatham Maroons (2-0-0-0) at the Brock St. Barn in GOJHL hockey play.

Legionnaires captain Alec DeKoning led the way with his first two goals of the season, while Cameron Ware dished out two assists. Rookie defenceman Max Hartwell scored the other Sarnia goal, his first career marker.

Brett Fisher scored twice and added an assist for Chatham, and his twin brother Kyle had a goal and an assist. Zach Power rounded out the scoring for the Maroons.

Legionnaires goalie Jakob Knowles turned aside 26 of 30 shots faced. Adam Harris stopped 25 of 28 shots in the Chatham net, including three spectacular saves against DeKoning.

Sarnia failed to capitalize on nine powerplay opportunities and killed off six of eight penalties against.

The Legionnaires return to action on Sunday in St. Thomas and on Wednesday in London before hosting the Strathroy Rockets for another Thursday night matchup at Sarnia Arena.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
