Legionnaires doubled up by St. Thomas

The Sarnia Legionnaires (8-7-0-2) were doubled up 4-2 by the visiting St. Thomas Stars (10-7-1-2) in GOJHL hockey action at the Brock St. Barn Thursday.

The game was tied 1-1 after one period and 2-2 after two. Sarnia got goals from Brendan Kennette and Blake Butler. Jon Sanderson and Will Redick each dished out a pair of assists.

St. Thomas pulled ahead 3-2 with a powerplay goal early in the third and sealed the win with an empty netter with one second remaining.

The Legionnaires had two goals called back in the game, including with just seven seconds left in regulation. It was ruled the puck was kicked into the net.

Legionnaires goalie Jakob Knowles made 27 saves on 31 shots faced, while Anthony Hurtubise stopped 30 of 32 shots in the St. Thomas net.

Sarnia's next game is on Sunday night in St. Marys before hosting Chatham next Thursday.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
