Sting Atoms ready for Silver Stick challenge

Hockey teams from as far away as Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, and St. Louis are in town this weekend for the 50th annual Sarnia Boys Silver Stick tournament.

Nearly 70 teams are competing in the Atom and Midget divisions.

Sarnia Jr. Sting Atom "AA" Head Coach Paul Burgess said they have a deep team and he expects them to be competitive.

He said playing in the "AA" division will be a challenge.

"Our 2008 birth year group the last two years have qualified to play in the "AA" loop in the alliance," said Burgess. "So, it was important to me that we continued that in Silver Stick. I know that sometimes the Sarnia teams can be seeded in the "A" division. I know our group has worked extremely hard to be classed as a "AA" team."

The opening ceremonies are in conjunction with the Sarnia Sting game on Friday night at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

Action continues throughout the weekend at arenas across Sarnia.

A full schedule can be found here.
