A Sarnia born soccer player is returning to Canada to continue his pro career.
Alex De Carolis signed with the Halifax Wanderers of the newly formed Canadian Premier League Wednesday.
The 26-year-old spent the past three seasons in Sweden, most recently with Umeå FC.
De Carolis said his decision to return to Canada was a "no brainer."
“I think it’s cool to be part of history in the inaugural season of the Canadian Premier League,” he said. “I wanted to be a part of it.”
De Carolis was born and raised in Sarnia, playing for the Bluewater Soccer Club and Sarnia Fury during that time.
He's also played for London FC, Buffalo's Canisius College, and the Seattle Sounders U23 squad before heading to Sweden.
De Carolis' main position is left-back, but has also spent time at centre-back and as a left winger.
The CPL, founded in May 2017, is made up of seven teams across Canada.
The league is scheduled to begin play in April 2019.
