Swimming coach masters competition at meet

A local swimming coach recently took home some hardware at the 2019 Ontario Masters Swimming Championships, held March 22-24 in Markham.

A total of 46 clubs competed with 460 swimmers in various age groups.

Sue Weir from the Sarnia Rapids Swim Team won three golds, two silvers, and a bronze in the 60-64 age division.

She earned first place in the 100-metre fly, 100-metre back and 4 x 50-metre medley relay.

She also placed second in the 50-metre fly, and 100-metre individual medley and third in the 50-metre free.

In addition to full time coaching with Sarnia Rapids, Weir continues to train and will be competing at the Michigan State Championships and the US Masters Spring Championships later this month.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
