Sting defeat Firebirds in Wednesday thriller

The Sarnia Sting snapped a mini two game losing streak with a thrilling 6-4 win over the visiting Flint Firebirds in OHL action Wednesday.

With the win, the Sting now have 11 victories in their past 14 contests.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period.

The Firebirds jumped out to a 3-1 lead midway through the second. Ty Dellandrea scored two powerplay goals to complete the hat trick while Theo Hill was serving a four minute high sticking penalty.

Sarnia stormed back with three goals in a span of just 1:04, including two within ten seconds, to make it a 4-3 game.

The teams exchanged third period goals, and Sarnia sealed with win with a late empty-netter.

Sean Josling led the way for the Sting with two goals and two assists. Ryan McGregor dished out three assists, while Jacob Perreault, Sam Bitten, and Ryan Roth each had a goal and an assist.

Sting goalie Ethan Langevin stopped 28 of 32 shots. Anthony Popovich turned aside 34 of 39 shots in the Firebirds crease.

Each team had success on the powerplay. The Sting scored twice on seven chances, and Flint had three goals on six opportunities.

The Sting are back in action on Friday in Guelph, and on Sunday at home to the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds.
