Legionnaires fall to last place Stars

The Sarnia Legionnaires' (12-22-1-3) losing streak has hit five games.

They lost 4-3 to the visiting St. Thomas Stars (9-24-0-5) in GOJHL hockey action on Thursday night.

The Stars jumped ahead 3-0 midway through the opening period on goals from Ben Diamond, Christian Froese, and Kolby Poulin.

Carson Peer trimmed the deficit to 3-1 with a late first period marker.

Ben Schoch and Joe Ferrera scored in the second to tie the game 3-3. Bryce Lewis sealed the St. Thomas win with a powerplay goal with 1:19 remaining in the game.

Josh Barraclough dished out two assists for Sarnia.

Legionnaires goalie Nolan DeKoning stopped 25 of 29 shots, while Matt Onuska turned aside 27 shots in the Stars crease.

The Legionnaires remain 8th place in the Western Conference with 28 points, five up on the last place Stars.

Sarnia is back in action next Thursday at home to the St. Marys Lincolns.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
