DeGurse powers Legionnaires to third straight win

Nolan DeGurse's hot streak continued Thursday night.

He scored a hat trick, and added two assists, as the Sarnia Legionnaires (15-22-1-3) beat the Strathroy Rockets (17-21-2-2) 5-3 at the Brock St. Barn for their third straight win.

DeGurse now has eight goals and four assists over his past three games, and a remarkable 31 goals and 26 assists in 29 games overall.

The game was tied 1-1 after one, and 2-2 after two. Sarnia scored three goals in under five minutes in the final frame to pull ahead 5-2. The Rockets added a late goal to make the final 5-3.

Matteo DiBlasio scored his first goal as a Legionnaire, and Joe Ferrera also lit the lamp. Josh Barraclough, and Aidan Letang both had two assists.

Riley Wood scored and had a helper for the Rockets. Brendan Mairs, and Zachary Berriault rounded out the scoring.

The Legionnaires capitalized on two of three powerplay chances and killed off three of four penalties against.

Sarnia goalie Nolan DeKoning made 29 saves on 32 shots faced. Zion Miceli turned aside 34 of 39 shots in the Strathroy crease.

The Legionnaires have 34 points, tied for seventh place with Komoka in the GOJHL's Western Conference. They're four back of the Rockets for sixth spot.

The Legionnaires are back in action Friday night in St. Marys before heading to Leamington next Thursday.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
