Weir leads at Cologuard Classic after opening round

Sarnia's Mike Weir got off to a hot start at this week's PGA Tour Champions event from Tucson, Arizona.

Weir fired an opening round of 66 Friday, good enough for a one shot lead at the Cologuard Classic at 7-under par.

The Bright's Grove native is still seeking his first win since turning 50 and joining the senior circuit.

Weir's impressive opening year on the tour included 11 events, four top-ten finishes including a second-place finish to fellow lefty Phil Mickelson, and over $565,000 in earnings, good enough for 20th on the money list.

Weir also had a solid showing at last year’s Masters Tournament on the PGA Tour, finishing in a tie for 51st at 2 over par.
