Sting fall to Knights in preseason return to the Hive

The Sarnia Sting's first home game in nearly 18 months saw the visiting London Knights come away with a 6-3 win in preseason action Saturday night.

Sting captain Brayden Guy had a goal and an assist in the losing effort, and Maxim Namestnikov, the third overall pick in the 2020 OHL Draft, had two assists.

Josh Vogelsberg opened the scoring for Sarnia in second period to cut London's lead to 2-1 at the time.  It was the Woodbridge-native's second goal of the preseason.  Sarnia's Nolan Dann scored midway through the third to make it 6-3.

Goaltender Anson Thornton turned away 25 of the 31 shots he faced in his Sting debut.  The 18-year-old from Maple, Ontario signed an Ontario Hockey League Standard Player Agreement with Sarnia last August.

On Friday night, the Sting edged the Knights 3-2 in a shootout in London, the first preseason game for both clubs.

Sarnia is back in action September 17 when they host the Spitfires.  The Sting's regular season begins in Windsor October 7.
