Sting acquire Schwindt from Steelheads, complete trade with Spirit

The Sarnia Sting has a new left wing.

The team has acquired left wing Kai Schwindt from the Mississauga Steelheads in exchange for a 9th-round pick in the 2024 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.

Schwindt finished the 2021-2022 season with 17 points, after signing with the Steelheads as a free agent.

Last year he had a season-best 25 points, with 12 goals and 13 assists.

"Kai will be returning from the Florida Panthers where he’s played NHL exhibition games and most recently with the Florida Everblades in the ECHL," said Sarnia Sting General Manager Dylan Seca. "He’s a big body who loves the physical game and plays with good puck confidence."

The Sting have been tracking Schwindt for the last two years.

"He will add much-needed size, physicality, and leadership to our group," said Seca. "We welcome Kai and the Schwindt family to Sarnia.”

In a second announcement on Saturday, the team announced the club moved the "rights" to Luca Del Bel Belluz in exchange for a conditional 15th-round pick in the 2027 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.

"We believe Luca will stay with Cleveland AHL, however, should those plans change we believe Saginaw could be a best destination point for him," said Seca. "This deal allows Saginaw the ability to work with Columbus."

Del Bel Belluz was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft. He currently has two goals and three assists with their AHL affiliate the Cleveland Monsters, tallying five points in his last six games.
