Lambton Lions win opener at national women's basketball championships

The Lambton Lions women's basketball team held on to win their opening game at the CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championships in Lloydminster, Alberta.

The Lions defeated The King's University Eagles 76-67 on Wednesday afternoon in quarter-final action.

Breanna Pretty led the way for the Lions with 28 points, and also chipped in three rebounds and two assists. Avery Bathe-Minard scored 20 off the bench for Lambton.

Lambton College's next contest is set for Thursday night at 6 p.m. MDT/ 8 p.m. EST for the semifinals.

Eight teams have qualified for the national championships, the Lambton Lions are the lone team from Ontario.

Games will be held through to Saturday.

This is Lambton's first time competing on a national level after winning the provincial title on March 3.
