The Sarnia Sting defeated the Flint Firebirds Friday night 6-5 in overtime.
This is the first win for the Sting since February 25.
Flint's Oliver Peer started off the scoring seven minutes into the first period.
Tyson Doucette scored five minutes later tying the game at 1-1.
By the end of the third period the Sting and Firebirds were tied 5-5.
Defenceman Mitch Young scored his first hat-trick with the Sting, including the winning goal 40 seconds into the extra frame.
"I felt like I had all of the time in the world so I kind of just picked my spot and closed my eyes and hoped it went in," said Young.
This is the first time in seven years a defenceman has scored a hat-trick with the Sarnia Sting.
The club has just four more games this season.
Young said the next couple of games are going to be a big learning experience.
"We're a young group and we know that but these games are still meaningful for development for all of our guys, so we're just looking to win games and learn those winning habits down this stretch so we can bring them in next year " he said.
Additionally, Cooper Way played his 200th game of his OHL career Friday.
