Lukas Fischer selected 56th overall in NHL Draft

Sarnia Sting defenseman Lukas Fischer has been selected 56th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the NHL Draft.

The Blues welcomed Fischer on Saturday as a second-round pick.

The six-foot-three, 17-year-old defenseman from Brighton, Michigan signed with the Sarnia Sting in 2022.

He racked up 34 points in 68 games during the 2023-2024 regular season.

Fischer is the son of former NHL player, Jiri Fischer, who played for the Detroit Red Wings.

The 2024 NHL Draft is being held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from June 28 until June 29. Nine OHL players were chosen during Friday's first round.

The Sarnia Sting have traded forward Liam Beamish to the Erie Otters for a 5th round pick in 2027 and a 3rd rounder in 2028.

The OHL club has acquired 19-year-old forward Parker Holmes from the Brantford Bulldogs in exchange for 3rd and 6th round draft picks in 2028.
