The Sarnia Sting has addressed a roster dilemma by moving one of their forwards.
The OHL club announced on Monday evening that right winger Sean Doherty was traded to the Niagara IceDogs, in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection.
Sting General Manager Dylan Seca said trades like this are difficult.
"We anticipated some very hard decisions this training camp," said Seca in a media release. "A trade like this is an example of the type of depth we have now established in the organization which then brings the difficult decisions to move a player who's been nothing short of a professional since his draft day. He has great character and is a player we do believe still has something to prove within the OHL. We wish Sean and the Doherty family all the best."
Doherty was drafted by the Sting in the third round of the 2022 Priority Selection. He compiled 18 points over two seasons, six of them goals.
The Sting continue the preseason Tuesday night when the Windsor Spitfires visit Progressive Auto Sales Arena. The regular season begins against Windsor at home on September 27.
