Sting remain hopeful for playoffs after 5-2 win against Flint

The Sarnia Sting defeated the visiting Flint Firebirds 5-2 at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena Friday Night.

The Sting had a busy first period, Mitch Young kicked off the scoring over four minutes into the first period.

Flint's Artem Frolov quickly tied up the game four minutes later.

Sarnia's Ruslan Karimov and Tyson Doucette each scored towards the end of the first.

Scoring was quiet when it came to the second period with one goal from Flint's Josh Colosimo.

In the third Doucette scored his 20th goal this season and Ryan Brown also got a goal winning their final home game of the regular season.

Doucette said there was a message with the team when they were leading 3-2.

"We went in there saying we have to play our game and stick to our systems and we should come out with the win," he said.

Last night's game was a must-win for the Sting if they wanted to remain in playoff contention.

Goalie Nick Surzycia said there was some pressure.

"I think everyone dealt with it very well and I think we just take what we've learned from today, take that confidence and bring it right into the Soo on Sunday and come out with two points," he said.

The Sting are tied with Owen Sound for playoff contention.

Sarnia is back in action Sunday afternoon against Sault Ste. Marie for their last game of the regular season. Puck drop is at 2:07 p.m. You can catch the game live on CHOK (103.9FM/1070AM) starting with the pre-game show at 1:30 p.m.
