Mailett shines as Sting beat Flint

The Sarnia Sting got a strong performance in goal from Evan Mailett as they beat the Flint Firebirds 4-2 on Saturday.

Mailett turned away 26 of 28 shots and was named the first star of the game.

Flint opened the scoring at 9:17 of the first period when Urban Podrekar found the back of the Sarnia net. That was the only scoring in the first period.

The Sting came out charging in the second period, scoring three unanswered goals. Easton Walos scored at 0:45 in the second, and was followed two minutes later by Brenner Lammens.

Matthew Manza scored at 19:30 to make it 3-1 Sarnia going into the second intermission.

Nathan Aspinal made it 3-2 when he got a shot past Maillett on the powerplay at 15:29 in the third period.

But that was as close as Flint would get, as Jordan Bax scored an empty net goal with 18 seconds left to seal the win for the Sting.

The Sting will be back in action this Friday, when they take on the Oshawa Generals at Progressive Auto Sales Arena. The game can be heard on CHOK 103.9FM.
