Wyandotte St. E Reopens Saturday

Just as one major road project in east Windsor ends, another begins.

The project got underway in July, and following months of road work and street scaping, Wyandotte St. E reopens at noon on Saturday.

The city budgeted $3.26-million to improve the road, sewers and parking, add bike lanes and plant new trees. City engineer Mario Sonego says there were a few surprises, but the project stayed on budget. "They found three underground storage tanks in the middle of the road. There were some railroad ties expected. They found a bit more. That was from an old cable car that they had way back when. And some of the street light wiring was not the best of shape," says Sonego. "That's why we have contingency amounts in there."

Riverside Dr. E is set to close for a week starting Monday between Devonshire and Lincoln Rd. Crews will remove the railroad tracks crossing Riverside Dr. Eventually, the city will also remove tracks crossing Devonshire Rd. and Montreuil.
