Leamington Orchard Gives CAS Apples

A Leamington orchard is donating 12,000 lbs of apples to the Windsor-Essex Children's Aid Society.

Andrew Thiessen at Thiessen Orchards says a friend gave him the idea. "I determined from the conversation that there's a need for this type of healthy snack for families in the community." Thiessen says the orchard regularly donates to schools and local food banks but he'd like to make a donation to the CAS an annual event.

It helps the orchard had a bumper crop this year. "We had great growing conditions," says Thiessen.

About 1,200 bags will be distributed to families in need across the region.
