Getting Councillors On Same Page

Windsor's new city council starts its orientation today.

This will be mayor-elect Drew Dilkens' third time through the process, but first time as mayor.

With five new councillors at the table this year, he says the orientation is especially important. "It's to understand the policies, procedures, code of conduct and how municipal government works. It's different if you just watch it on Monday nights. Once you actually get to sit around the table and understand the mechanics and some of the limitations that you have, your perspective changes."

Dilkens expects a learning curve with so many new councillors coming in, but says the last thing he wants to do is crush anyone's enthusiasm for the job.

The new council will be sworn in on December 1.
