Windsor Police Investigate Multiple Thefts

Police in Windsor are investigating a series of incidents including the case of an alleged shoplifter who was hit by a vehicle while making a getaway.

On November 10, police received a complaint after someone stole 11 boxes of gum from a 7-11 convenience store in the 900-block of Wyandotte St. E. It was caught on video surveillance.

Police believe the suspect was involved in similar thefts at two other convenience store over a two-week period. In each case, the suspect put the boxes in his back pack and left without paying.

The second incident was Wednesday November 19, at the People's Jewellers in Devonshire Mall. Workers at the store say the woman walked in with a man around 12:15pm and asked if she could try on a ring. Eventually, the clerk asked for the ring back but she refused and fled the store.

Police are looking for a white woman between 18 and 20-years, who is 155 cm (5'1") tall with a slender build. She had shoulder length blonde hair and was wearing a winter coat.

In the third incident Thursday November 20, officers attended the Shoppers Drug Mart in the 3200-block of Howard Ave. after a vehicle hit a pedestrian.

Investigators discovered the store's Loss Prevention Officer had the victim in custody on the suspicion he was stealing perfume. However, the suspect got away from the officer and ran into the road where a passing vehicle struck him.

The suspect suffered minor injuries.

Angus Leblanc, 43, faces theft under $5000 and escape lawful custody charges.
