New Kingsville School Funding Problems

The Greater Essex County District School Board doesn't expect to get funding for a JK to Grade 12 school in Kingsville, which is why they hope to re-examine accommodations in the area.

Superintendent of Education Todd Awender says the board applied to the province for the new school funding, but didn't get a good response. "The words that we received back from the ministry were that it wasn't a favourable solution to them at this point in time." The new school recommendation comes from the accommodation review completed in 2012.

Awender says one of the issues is there's other schools nearby with empty spaces, which is likely why the province won't fund the school.

The board will be asked on December 9 to launch a review that encompasses Kingsville, Harrow, Amherstburg, and Western Secondary.
