Donation Helps Kids Play Hockey

A $5,000 donation from St.Clair College Alumni will cover the cost of insurance and ice time for 200 kids who otherwise wouldn't get to play hockey this winter.

The cheque was made out to Knobby's Kids; a Windsor-based charity named after Robert "Knobby" Knudson, who passed away in 2011.

Organizer Jerry Slavik says more and more kids coming out to Lanspeary Rink are girls. "The girls are coming out because they're not intimidated by the way we run things. They just fit in with the guys," he says. "This is our ninth year. Our first couple years we had half a dozen girls and that was really something." About 50 girls are signed up so far for this season.

Slavik says Knobby's Kids also accepts used hockey equipment, and if you want to donate equipment or wish to register, visit the Knobby's Kids website.
